Can you believe we are coming up to the anniversary of #morphememondays?
The first #morphememonday was July 8th 2019 and we have covered so much since then.

Origin: Latin & Greek
Definition: forward, in favor of, before
Examples: proclamation, prognosis, propound, prosecute, prohibit
<pro> + <voke> -> provoke
<pro> + <file> -> profile
<pro> + <test> + <ed> -> protested
<pro> + <tract> + <or> -> protractor
<pro> + <tect> + <ing> -> protecting

This prefix is very common and found in many words in the English language

It should be explicitly taught to students in the intermediate grades

Knowledge of this prefix will give them the ability to use morphemes to hypothesize meanings of words they are not familiar with

Once you teach this prefix and the prefix <anti> you could have a discussion about different groups that are pro- and anti- topics.

<main> + <ten> + <ance> -> maintenance
<per> + <tin> + <ent> -> pertinent
<ten> + <e> + <ment> -> tenement
